Brandon Fahlberg is a captain on the soccer field at Lowell High School.

Off the field, the junior is much, much more.

For his efforts, Fahlberg has been selected as the MIAA/NESN Student-Athlete of the Month for October 2011. The award is given to an outstanding student-athlete for excelling in athletics, academics and community service.

Fahlberg attends the Lowell Latin Lyceum, a highly competitive exam “school within a school” at Lowell High, where its students are enrolled in the highest honors and advanced placement courses offered at the school.

Earning a 3.81 grade point average with a course load that includes AP U.S. history, AP physics, Latin and other highly rigorous courses, Fahlberg was also able to help lead his soccer team to an 11-3-4 record this fall.

In June, Brandon received the Lowell Rotary Youth Leadership Award for leadership experience and history of community service. For the past two years, Brandon has dedicated weekends to working in a homeless shelter serving food to residents, has sorted clothing for “Cradles to Crayons” in Boston, helped organize a warehouse for the Lowell Wish Project, solicited donations of canned goods for Lowell’s food pantry and worked at a soup kitchen at the Eliot Church in Lowell.
