Mark Sanchez Gets Spooked by Bills Cornerback Drayton Florence, Flagged On Trick Play (Video)

On a fourth-quarter play out of the wild cat formation, Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was flagged for a very unusual penalty for a quarterback.

Two for flinching? Not quite; Sanchez was flagged for holding.

A simple fake lunge was all that was necessary for Bills cornerback Drayton Florence to spook Sanchez out of his shoes with three minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Apart from the obvious embarrassment of the situation, this doesn’t exactly qualify as putting your best players in a position to succeed — or even to stay healthy.

It’s curious what Sanchez was doing run blocking on one of the final plays of a game that was well out of reach for the Bills. He may have been afraid of bodily harm before the snap, but he’s fortunate not to have been a victim of a violent hit from a division rival after the snap.

As CBS analyst Phil Simms points out, these are the things you can laugh at when you win. The Jets topped the Bills 27-11 and are now among a three-way tie at the top of the AFC East.

Watch it all go down in the video below.
