FOXBORO, Mass. — Patriots left tackle Matt Light departed from Gillette Stadium on Monday night wearing a walking boot over his right foot and ankle.
Light was injured during the Patriots' final offensive possession of their 34-3 victory against the Chiefs. The team's medical staff helped him walk over to the bench, where he stayed for the duration of the game. It might be considered a good sign that he wasn't immediately rushed to the X-ray room, which is common for players who suffer severe injuries.
After the game, Light got dressed at his locker without any protection over his foot and ankle, but he was carted back to his car (all players are driven on golf carts from the locker room to the parking lot) with the walking boot on his foot.
Light was replaced at left tackle by rookie first-round pick Nate Solder. Sebastian Vollmer can also play both tackle positions, and rookie Marcus Cannon, who made his NFL debut, played at right tackle during the final offensive series.
The Patriots have plenty of depth at the position and got by without Vollmer for five of their first six games of the season. Light has started all 16 games in all but two seasons since 2002.
