FOXBORO, Mass. — The Patriots practiced without two defensive starters for the second consecutive day Thursday, as safety Patrick Chung (foot) and linebacker Brandon Spikes (knee) couldn't take the field after suffering injuries Sunday against the Giants.

They were also without linebacker Dane Fletcher (thumb) and offensive lineman Ryan Wendell (concussion).

Friday will be the biggest indication for their availability for Sunday's game against the Jets. Typically, head coach Bill Belichick doesn't play guys who miss an entire week of practice.

The Patriots practiced in full pads for the eighth time in 31 regular-season practices, not including walkthroughs. The practice was held on the Gillette Stadium game field under a steady rain.
