The Sox have held preliminary discussions with the representatives for the free-agent outfielder, WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford reports.
Cuddyer has reportedly also had discussions with the Philadelphia Phillies, but he could be an intriguing option for the Red Sox given his leadership and versatility. The 32-year-old has spent his entire 11-year career with the Minnesota Twins, getting selected to his first All-Star Game last season.
Cuddyer is primarily a right fielder, but he’s also shown an ability to play in the infield, particularly at first base and third base. He would also fit the Sox’ desire to add a right-handed bat.
The longtime Twin joins Grady Sizemore and Carlos Beltran as potential free-agent outfield options that the Sox have been linked to recently.
