Gruden, who was coaching the Oakland Raiders during the snowy showdown, got a chance to talk a man who may have benefited most from that little-known ruling more than a decade ago, Patriots owner Robert Kraft.
The two spoke about how Kraft and Pats coach Bill Belichick have been able to have so much success for so long, but they also chatted about the AFC divisional round playoff game in 2002.
"We all thought it was a fumble," Kraft said. "And thank goodness we found there was a rule that made it not a fumble.
"I think they called it … 'the tuck rule?'" Kraft joked. "I know you like that word … 'tuck rule.'"
Kraft actually went as far as crediting Gruden's humility in wake of the ruling as one of the reasons the Patriots have been so successful over the last decade.
"You changed everything for us," Kraft started, "because if that hadn't happened, we would have been out. I will be forever grateful for you for living by the rules."
