The Nets will not be in New Jersey too much longer, but there may be another basketball team headed to New Jersey.

NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal said as much according to NJ.com, when he revealed that talks are ongoing to bring an NBA team to Newark, NJ.

"I would love to own an NBA team," O'Neal told Stephen A. Smith of ESPN's SportsCenter. "Hopefully we can bring a team back to my hometown of Newark, New Jersey and we have some talks going on now."

The Nets have played in Newark's Prudential Center since 2010, and are scheduled to move to Brooklyn beginning in 2012. The NBA lockout has threatened to wipe out New Jersey's last season with a basketball team, and  though Shaq has stated interest in starting a franchise in Newark, this is the first time he has publicly come out and said talks are in motion.

According to the report, Newark Mayor Cory Booker was unavailable for comment, but getting him to sign off on an NBA franchise shouldn't be much of a problem, as the mayor has publicly advocated for a permanent team in the past.
