Steve Gerrard Recovering From Ankle Infection, But Will Miss Swansea and England GamesSteve Gerrard’s infected ankle is responding well to treatement, but his return date remains unknown. Kenny Dalglish was upbeat about the Liverpool captain’s prospects, according to LiverpoolFC.tv.

“Since they found the infection, Steven has really been progressing extremely well. Everything is positive for him,” Dalglish said. “They found the infection and I suppose it’s a wee bit like flu — you know you’ve got it, but you don’t know where it came from.

“But they are treating and it is responding really well, so it’s positive for him. It is nothing more sinister.”

Gerrard cut his ankle in practice last Friday and the area became infected. A surgical procedure to drain fluid from the ankle was followed by a course of antibiotics.

Gerrard will miss Saturday’s game against Swansea City. England plays friendly matches against Spain on Nov. 12 and Sweden three days later. The Liverpool talisman will almost certainly miss those games.

It is unclear if he will recover in time to play a role in Liverpool’s games against Chelsea on Nov. 20 and Manchester City on Nov. 27.
