The 31-year-old midfielder's contract expires at the end of next season. Owners Fenway Sports Group has no intenetion of letting Gerrard see out his playing career at another club.
"From the moment they bought the club over a year ago, FSG have made it clear they wish Gerrard to spend the remainder of his career at his boyhood team," the report says.
Gerrard made a successful comback in Setpember after six months out of action. He had surgery in April to correct a groin problem that has plagued him over the last two seasons. He missed Saturday's 0-0 draw against Swansea City because of an ankle infection, but it should not keep him out of the team for too long.
The Telegraph report says the club could offer Gerrad a two-year extension, that would expire when he is 35 years old. Liverpool officials want their skipper — along with veteran defender Jamie Carragher — to remain at the only club they have ever known when they decides to retire from play. If Gerrard chooses to go into management, they want him to do so at Anfield.
"FSG have informed the pair they see roles for them as part of the staff when they finish playing, should they decide to pursue such a course," the reports adds.
