Tony Dungy thinks so.
In an interview on the Dan Patrick Show, Dungy explained that while the Broncos are winning now, their Tebow-led running attack can only take them so far before they will need to pass to win.
"I don't know how much longer it can go," the former Indianapolis coach said. "I don't think it can go very long. They're going to have to get some more passing game, some way."
For now, Dungy admits that the Broncos are doing a great job of scheming around Tebow and his running ability, explaining, "I think it gives you a lot of problems — defensively, you have to get ready for all those different things and they keep adding new wrinkles to the running game."
But in today's NFL, it's only a matter of time before opposing defenses figure out a way to iron those wrinkles out. Will Tebow have what it takes when he's forced into a passing situation?
"To win those big games," Dungy explains, "you're going to have to complete some third-down passes, you're going to have to be able to get some explosive games in the passing game."
In his five games as a starter this season, Tebow has only averaged 126 yards passing while rushing for an average of 208 yards per game. But the most important statistic he can point to is his record: 4-1.
With the Broncos suddenly back in the AFC playoff picture after Thursday night's win against the Jets, those wins are all that matter.
