It remains unclear how serious Adrian Peterson's leg injury is, but it certainly didn't look good. In fact, it was actually kind of disgusting.

Peterson left Saturday's game against the Redskins in the third quarter after getting taken out at the legs by Washington safety DeJon Gomes. The Vikings running back's leg bent awkwardly, forcing him to lie on the ground in pain. Peterson then had to be helped off the field by his teammates.

It was one of two big blows to the Vikings' offense on Saturday, as rookie quarterback Christian Ponder was also knocked out of the game. He suffered a concussion on the same series.

FOX Sports' Dr. Mark Adickes reports that Peterson has probably damaged multiple ligaments, in which case he could be out of action for anywhere from six weeks to 12 months (based on the severity of the injury).
