FOXBORO, Mass. — Defensive end Andre Carter's season came to an official end Tuesday when the Patriots placed him on injured reserve with a leg injury.

A source indicated Carter would need surgery to repair a quad injury that he suffered Sunday against the Broncos. Carter had 10 sacks and 59 tackles.

The 32-year-old signed a one-year contract with the Patriots over the summer, just after he thought his career was over. Bill Belichick was asked if he'd be interested in reaching a new deal with Carter after this season.

"We'll deal with next year next year," Belichick said Tuesday. "We're just worried about the Dolphins."
