Bears Signing Donovan McNabb Would Be ‘Waste of Time,’ Devin Hester Says

The Bears could take a look at virtually every available quarterback after Caleb Hanie led Chicago's offense to three points in a loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. Whether signing a new quarterback, even a six-time Pro Bowler and four-time NFC Champion, would make much of a difference is another matter.

Count wide receiver/kick returner Devin Hester among those who don't think free agent Donovan McNabb — or any free-agent quarterback — would help the Bears right away.

"It's going to be tough right now to add a quarterback that hasn't played in a Mike Martz offense," Hester said on Mike and Mike in the Morning. "It's one of the more difficult offenses to run, so to get a quarterback that hasn't been in that offense, right now it's going to be a waste of time.

"I guess we'll stick with the guys we have right now and hope we get better with those guys."

Hester should know how difficult Martz' offense is. After all, he has just 25 receptions for 355 yards and a single touchdown this season in a "Martz offense".
