The Celtics added some depth to their bench on Saturday, inking guard/forward Mickael Pietrus after the veteran cleared waivers.
"We are very excited to be able to add Mickael to our team," C's president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said of the move. "His skills as a perimeter defender and an outside shooter provide great versatility to the roster."
Pietrus cleared waivers after negotiating a $3 million buyout with the Phoenix Suns. Pietrus' agent, Bill McCandless, told The Boston Globe on Friday that the veteran swingman loves Celtics head coach Doc Rivers.
The addition of Pietrus is a big one for the C's, as they've been struck by injuries already. Jeff Green will miss the entire 2011-12 season with a heart condition, while Paul Pierce is banged up and missed the team's first game against the New York Knicks.
Pietrus, 29, has played with the Warriors, Magic and Suns over the course of his eight NBA seasons. He averaged 7.2 points in 19.4 minutes per game last season. He's averaged 8.5 points in 21.5 minutes per game for his career.
