The Celtics have added some size and depth in the form of Chris Wilcox.

The C's announced that they have signed the 6-foot-10 forward, and he was present for the opening of training camp on Friday night.

Wilcox, the eighth overall pick in 2002, has spent time with the Clippers, Sonics/Thunder, Knicks and Pistons over the course of his career. He's averaged 8.8 points and 5.1 rebounds in 20.7 minutes per game.

The 29-year-old averaged a career-high 14.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game in 29 games in 2005-06 as a member of the Sonics. He followed that up with a solid 2006-07 season in which he averaged 13.5 points and 7.7 rebounds while starting 81 games.

Wilcox has bounced around a bit the past few years, but he finished strong last season with the Pistons. His size and rebounding ability could be a real asset to the C's. For now, though, the Maryland product is just happy to get an opportunity with a contender.

"They had a lot of great guys here," Wilcox told WEEI.com. "My agent called me and said are you interested? This is my first chance of playing for a team of this caliber so I was willing to take this opportunity and come to Boston."
