Charlie Adam's Missed Penalty Kick Prompts Collective Groan From LFC Fans

Just as Charlie Adam was working his way into good graces of his most hardened skeptics, he missed a penalty kick. The Reds rue that missed opportunity, as they had to settle for a scoreless draw in Wednesday's game against Wigan.

In the 51st minute, the Liverpool midfielder could have put his team ahead, but goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi saved his shot. It was hit hard, but only slightly to the in-form stopper's left. He only had to dive half the length of his body and punch Adam's effort away.

Wigan drew strength from that moment and was every bit Liverpool's equal for much of the remaining 40 minutes.

Adam's missed penalty was Liverpool's fourth spot-kick miss of the season. He adds his name to the list of offenders that includes Luis Suarez, Dirk Kuyt and Andy Carroll.

Adam has been in good form in many of Liverpool's recent games, but the 26-year-old struggled Wednesday. His usual work-rate was there, but he failed to influence the game to the same extent as in games against Chelsea, Manchester City and Queens Park Rangers. His set-piece deliveries failed to find their targets on a number of occasions.

But it was the missed penalty that caused LFC supporters to aim their gazes at Adam.
