Report: Carlos Beltran, Cardinals Come to Terms on Two-Year DealThe Red Sox were thought to be among the teams in on acquiring Oakland lefty Gio Gonzalez, before he was instead shipped to Washington on Thursday afternoon.

Boston was also reported to be one of a handful of teams in on free-agent outfielder Carlos Beltran. On Thursday night, they found out he apparently chose the defending world champions.

Beltran has agreed to a two-year contract with the St. Louis Cardinals worth a reported $25 million, according to Yahoo’s Tim Brown via Twitter. The deal was first reported by the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Beltran played 142 games in 2011 splitting his time in New York with the Mets and in San Francisco. He hit .300 with 22 home runs and 84 RBIs to go along with a .910 OPS, the fifth best among NL outfielders.
