According to the Daily Mirror, Suarez received a fine and two separate bans, which amount to eight games.
“He was given two matches for using insulting language towards an opponent — the standard punishment if a player is sent off for such an offense,” the Mirror reports. “For the second charge of making a reference to Evra’s color he was given six matches.”
The incident in question took place in second half of the October meeting between Manchester United and Liverpool. Suarez and Evra were involved in a verbal confrontation, and Suarez allegedly insulted the Manchester United defender using words with racial connotations.
The confrontation was included in referee Andre Marriner‘s report, triggering an FA investigation. The governing body took one full month to charge the Liverpool forward with using abusive words. Suarez denied Evra’s allegations immediately after the game and pleaded not guilty when he was formally charged.
Nearly a month later, the case went in front of an independent three-man disciplinary panel. It took statements from both parties, pored over whatever evidence it could find and found Suarez guilty of misconduct.
Liverpool is considering lodging an appeal, but will wait until the FA publishes its reasons for the decision.
The Mirror also states that Liverpool is considering taking the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland. The CAS is an independent authority that is authorized to make binding decisions on sports-related disputes.
