Matt Garza's name will continue to be tossed around when it comes to pitchers who could potentially be obtained via trade. And if the righty is eventually dealt, there's the possibility he could wind up in Miami.
The Marlins have serious interest in the 28-year-old hurler, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
The Marlins have already added Mark Buehrle this offseason, but they failed to land Gio Gonzalez, who the A's dealt to the Nationals this offseason. That failure to land another quality arm to their rotation likely sparked Miami's interst in Garza, who would fit in nicely alongside Buehrle and Josh Johnson.
Garza went 10-10 with a career-best 3.32 ERA in his first season with the Cubs last season. He's also pitched for the Twins and Rays, compiling a 52-54 record and a 3.83 ERA over the course of six seasons.
The Red Sox, Yankees and Blue Jays were linked to Garza this past week, and it was reported that talks were "heating up." According to Rosenthal, the Tigers have had discussions with the Cubs as well, although no deal appears close.
Cubs president Theo Epstein said earlier this offseason that Garza is the type of pitcher Chicago would like to build around, but he also noted that he'd listen to offers on anybody.
