Robin Ventura's post-playing days are getting extremely busy. Not only is the new White Sox manager preparing for the upcoming season and his first endeavor in coaching, but he's making holiday wishes come true.
The longtime third baseman and new skipper starred in "A Christmas Carol" at Chicago's Goodman Theater. The appearance came upon the request of 9-year-old Emily Beazley, a big fan of the South Siders who has stage three non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Her only holiday wish was to star in a play alongside a member of the White Sox organization. Ventura and the Make a Wish Foundation ensured that wish became a reality.
Despite no acting experience, Ventura flew in from California and took to the stage. He even admitted that he had some nerves before fulfilling his role in the Christmas classic. After all, getting on stage can be a little intimidating — even for a two-time major league All-Star.
Ventura called the decision to help grant Beazley's wish a non-brainer, though, proving that there are, in fact, still some genuine people out there. A happy holiday indeed.
