Sevilla Fans Pay to Place Photo Headshots on Backs of Players’ Jerseys

While soccer fans wear their hearts on their sleeves, players at Spanish club FC Sevilla wear the pictures of their fans on their back. Dirty Tackle reports the club is allowing their fans to include their photos on the backs of players’ game jerseys for a small fee.

For around 25 Euros ($33.35), supporters can accompany their heroes onto the field. The money pays for a season-long placement of fans’ headshots on the numbers that appear on players’ backs.

Fans can visit the website of Spanish company Playing 2 and select the player and the exact spot on which they want their photo to appear. The 2×2 millimeter photos are barely visible, but it’s the thought that counts, right?

Sevilla is the first soccer team to adopt the scheme and the club claims it has been well received.

“People do seem willing to pay for the chance to be on the back of their idol,” the club said.

The company claims it can fit 3,142 photos onto a each number. By our math, that makes each digit on a jersey worth up to over 75,000 Euros ($104,785).

Expect this potentially lucrative revenue stream to catch. One can imagine a secondary (black) market opening up as fans jostle for positioning and placement on the jerseys of Lionel Messi and other superstars.
