Professional athletes are often fined for their actions on the playing field. But sometimes subtle violations can also dig into a player's pocket.

Wes Welker was guilty of one of those subtle violations during his postgame news conference last Saturday. The Patriots wide receiver wore a promotional baseball cap that apparently wasn't authorized, and he's since been fined $10,000 by the NFL.

Welker wore a hat that promoted Bonk Breaker energy bar, which the league found to be a big no-no. Fans took to Twitter to show Welker their support, which the Pro Bowl wideout appreciated greatly. Welker did take a little jab at the league, though.

He tweeted, "Thanks for warning me the other 16 weeks I wore the hat."

If it's any consolation, Welker's fine at least earned him some props from teammate Chad Ochocinco, who tweeted, "You're the 1st white receiver to get fined. Welcome to the club, Starbucks on me tomorrow."

Hopefully Welker enjoys what amounts to a $10,000 cup of coffee.
