The Bruins have announced that defenseman Andrew Ference has been suspended three games by the league for his hit on the Rangers' Ryan McDonagh during Saturday's game.

News of the suspension came just before the Bruins took on the Flyers in Philadelphia, although it was unclear initially how long he'd be out. Ference had a phone hearing with league disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan on Sunday morning.

The suspension stems from Ference's hit on McDonagh, which occurred with 3:10 remaining in overtime of New York's 3-2 win over the Bruins on Saturday. Ference received a major penalty for charging, which put the Rangers on the power play and ultimately led to a game-winning, power-play goal by Marian Gaborik.

Steven Kampfer took Ference's place in the lineup on Sunday, and will likely continue to do so for the next two games.
