Barack Obama Praises Mavericks' Heart During NBA Champions' Visit to White House (Photos)The Dallas Mavericks are in the midst of a little two-game road trip that brings them to Boston on Wednesday night to take on the Celtics.

So far, it's been a pretty good trip for the defending NBA champions. They steamrolled the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night at the Palace at Auburn Hills one night after making a stop at another "palace" of sorts.

Mark Cuban, Dirk Nowtizki and the rest of the Dallas squad dropped by the White House in Washington, D.C. for their traditional champions visit. While Cuban initially complained that it made no sense to schedule the visit during a time in which the Mavs wouldn't be playing the Wizards, it still seemed to be a pretty good time.

President Barack Obama praised Dallas for its heart, saying that the Mavericks had "heart the size of Texas."

"This was a remarkable run, a great victory," Obama said. "A great vindication for all the effort Mark Cuban put into building this team, and for longtime players like Dirk Nowitzki and long-suffering fans like all of you."

Cuban — who traded in his trademark T-shirt and jeans for a designer suit — was also the target of some playful banter from the president.

"Not only did Mark help put together an outstanding group of players and coaches, he was also responsible for making this happen today," Obama said in reference to Cuban's gripes about the visit.

"That did not sit well with Mark. He knew the team had worked hard, he wanted them to get all the perks of a world championship, including a visit to the White House. It is tough to say no to Mark Cuban, so they made a special trip and here we are."
