Bruins first-round pick Dougie Hamilton, playing in the OHL for the Niagara IceDogs, has been suspended 10 games by the league for a hit to the head of Michael MacDonald of the Sudbury Wolves. The hit occurred during a Jan. 13 game between the two teams.
Hamilton was given a four-minute minor for the hit on MacDonald, a hit that left the Sudbury captain with a concussion.
The league announced its decision via video on Thursday afternoon, arguing that the hit was a hit to the head, it was on a vulnerable opponent and it left the opponent with an injury.
The Bruins made Hamilton the ninth-overall pick in the 2011 NHL entry draft, and he signed an entry-level contract with the B's on Dec. 8.
The 18-year-old has racked up 13-37-50 totals to go along with a plus-19 rating in just 34 games this season with the IceDogs.
