“Things have not happened as I was told they would,” Samba said about his time at Blackburn. “The club is not improving at all. I’ve tried to maintain my performance level but I feel it’s time to change. I hope people will understand me.”
Samba’s assured performances at the heart of his club’s defence has won him a host of admirers over the years. He joined Rovers from Germany club Hertha Berlin and became an instant starter for the Premier League team.
Blackburn is languishing at the bottom of the Premier League after 20 games, despite Samba’s consistent standout performances. He has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs over the years, including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.
The 27-year-old also spoke of the reported interest from French leader Paris Saint-Germain. He was born in Congo, but grew up outside of the French capital. He has followed the club’s development under its mega-rich Qatari owners.
“We’ll see if the interest is confirmed or not, but it would be good for me to return home,” Samba added. “In any case, it’s flattering. The club has taken on a new dimension, it’s not the PSG of a few years ago.”
Blackburn’s former assistant manager Paul Clement recently left the English club to join new PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti’s staff. Clement and Ancelotti worked together at Chelsea, where the Italian worked for two seasons from 2009-11. Clement could be instrumental in recruiting Samba to PSG if the French club bids for his services.
