The NFL has been doing its part to eliminate helmet-to-helmet hits, so it wouldn't be too surprising if 49ers safety Donte Whitner hears from the league office on Monday.
Whitner delivered a punishing hit on the Saints' Pierre Thomas during Saturday's NFC divisional round playoff game, which seemingly knocked the running back unconscious. The hit also forced a fumble, which San Francisco was then able to recover.
The hit seems a bit questionable, although Thomas did take a few steps up field before Whitner delivered the blow. Either way, it appears that Thomas' day is done, which is a major setback for the Drew Brees-led Saints offense.
