Report: Joe Paterno ‘Near Death’ Following Health Complications

Joe Paterno's health has taken a turn for the worse, as the former Penn State head coach has experienced health complications, according to various reports.

Paterno has been battling lung cancer and undergoing radiation treatment to combat the illness. Doctors have said that the former Nittany Lions coach is in serious condition.

According to The Citizens' Voice's Michael Sisak, a source close to the Paterno family has said that JoePa is near death, and that his family has been summoned to his bedside.

Onward State reports that Paterno has been taken off of a respirator. The sudden decline in health comes two weeks after Paterno gave his first interview following his termination to The Washington Post.

The 85-year-old Paterno started treatment after being relieved from coaching Penn State following the Jerry Sandusky scandal. He has been in the hospital since Jan. 13.
