Once the Dodgers manager, Joe Torre is now shifting his focus to owning them.

The former Yankees and Dodgers skipper resigned from his post as Major League Baseball’s executive vice president of baseball operations on Wednesday to pursue an opportunity with a group that is bidding on the Dodgers, ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick reports.

Torre was just one month away from completing his first year on the job. MLB commissioner Bud Selig appointed the 71-year-old last February.

By resigning from the position, Torre's sights are seemingly on purchasing a stake of the team he managed from 2008-10. Current owner Frank McCourt reached an agreement with MLB on Nov. 2 to sell the team after he declared bankruptcy in June.

In the interim, Joe Garagiola Jr., Kim Ng and Peter Woodford will assume Torre’s responsibilities in the MLB office as Selig searches for a replacement.
