Former MLB slugger and admitted steroid user Jose Canseco has expressed a desire to return to the majors in recent days. Apparently, he wouldn’t mind returning to Boston.
Canseco issued the following tweet late Monday night:
Canseco’s math is a bit off — he’s a career .312 hitter at Fenway, and has 48 home runs in 629 career at-bats in Boston (which equates to one home run per every 13 at-bats or so). But it’s obvious the man is on a mission.
The controversial ex-Major Leaguer said he’s hitting at a baseball academy in Las Vegas and has boldly proclaimed, “I am going to play this year.” He said he loves the game too much to give it up, and wonders if a little tryout is too much to ask for.
The 47-year-old has been serving as manager, outfielder and designated hitter for the Yuma Scorpions of the North American League since last April. Heading to the majors would pose a gigantic leap for the mercurial star, though.
Canseco’s most convincing plea yet for a comeback tour came just minutes after he expressed a desire to return to Boston, where he spent two seasons in the mid ’90s.
Somebody give this guy a chance.
