Turkish soccer is scoring some major points for ingenuity this season. Fans of Karsiyaka S.K. have took stadium banter (abuse) to a new level by using QR codes to insult fans of opponents Goztepe during a recent game, according to Offthepost.info.
Karsiyaka fans printed extra large QR code banners that took those who scanned the codes on their cell phones to a website containing a special message. The messages on the website called Goztepe fans various insulting words in a number of languages.
It is a clever work-around to solve the age-old problem of spending one’s time and money painting large and insulting banners — only to have them confiscated by stadium security when unfurled.
Earlier this season, the Turkish FA made Istanbul giants Fenerbache play its game against Manisaspor in front of a crowd of women and children only. The initiative was a response to crowd trouble at a preseason game during the summer.
