Nandi Mehta, a senior at Lexington High School, has been named the MIAA/NESN Student-Athlete of the Month for December.

Mehta served as a captain this season for a Lexington scocer team that won the Middlesex League title. Much of that team success could be attributed to Mehta, who was named the league’s most valuable player. She’ll continue her soccer career next year at Northwestern University.

Away from the pitch, Mehta has been just as successful. She carries a 3.90 GPA in the classroom, an average that is even more impressive when you consider her contributions to the community. Mehta volunteers with US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) in addition to volunteering with the Nashoba Learning Group.

“Throughout her tenure at Lexington High School, I have witnessed Nandi reach out to younger players who were struggling and help them become accustomed to the team and life as a student-athlete,” Lexington varsity soccer coach Frank Pagliuca said. “As a result of her honest and compassionate nature, Nandi has become a role model for all of her teammates. She possesses great character and has the ability to motivate her peers.”
