Mexican referee Marco Antonio “Chiquidracula” Rodriguez’s decision to show two yellow cards at once in a Tigres-Santos match back in December might not have been the best idea.

The Mexican Soccer Federation has suspended Rodriguez for five games for his actions, according to Yahoo Sports.

Mexican Soccer Federation secretary general Decio de Maria said in a statement: “The situation of having drawn two yellow cards at the same time is outside the role, not something that is considered in the arbitration rules and is considered as if he had not responded to what happened and did not sanction it.”

Referees are supposed to show one card at a time when disciplining two or more players. During the match, Rodriguez showed a total of seven yellow cards and three red cards. The Tigres won 4-1 and celebrated their first Mexico Primera Division Apertura title in 29 years.
