Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is not about to become Los Angeles Dodgers owner as well.
Cuban has withdrawn his name from the process, saying that the economics of the process weren’t what he was looking for, blaming the TV rights deal as a big part of the problem.
“It just didn’t work out,” Cuban told Access Hollywood. “I wanted to buy a baseball team; they were selling a media rights deal. It just wasn’t going to work out.”
Cuban was part of one of several groups showing serious interest in purchasing the Dodgers, but he says the interest shown from other groups in the TV rights was among the biggest reasons he’s pulling out of the running.
“The economics got so out of control because the Dodgers’ TV deal’s up for bid and so there’s a lot of group’s coming in going, ‘This TV deal’s worth so much money that we’re gonna pay whatever it takes to get the Dodgers.’ And so they’re buying the TV rights deal first and the team second.
“There’s a lot of great people bidding on it,” he added. “I just wasn’t going through that given all those circumstances.”
