Matt Light, Jerod Mayo Among Patriots Dealing With Illnesses

INDIANAPOLIS — There’s an illness circulating through the Patriots’ locker room in the days leading up to the Super Bowl, and that’s not exactly desirable at this point in the season.

Linebacker Jerod Mayo said Tuesday he’s got a cold, and he was visibly a little stuffed up. Also, left tackle Matt Light and right tackle Sebastian Vollmer are dealing with illnesses, according to Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

As a result, neither Light nor Vollmer attended the team’s Media Day session at Lucas Oil Stadium. It might have been Belichick’s intent to keep them as far away from their teammates as possible, as a virus could play a major role if it circulates quickly enough. Or, it might just be contained to those three players.

At any rate, it’s become an issue the Patriots have had to deal with early in the week.
