NFL players will take fan interraction to a whole new level on Sunday at the Pro Bowl.
Darren Rovell, the host of CNBC's Sports Biz, tweeted Wednesday that NFL players will be able to tweet from the sidelines during the Pro Bowl on Sunday.
"BREAKING: NFL will allow players to in-game tweet during Sunday's Pro Bowl. There will be 1 designated area per sideline," Rovell wrote.
Rovell later clarified that the tweets would not come from personal devices, but rather from computer stations set up on each sideline. The NFL typically denies players the right to use any social media on the sidelines during games.
Despite the change of tone for the Pro Bowl, vice president of NFL communications Brian McCarthy confirmed to Rovell that the league's policy on regular season tweeting would not change.
This move is likely to help boost ratings for the game. Unfortunately, Patriots receiver Chad Ochocinco, arguably the most Twitter-happy player in the league, was not selected to go to Honolulu this year. Even if he was, the social media expert would have had to skip the event, as the Patriots are in the Super Bowl.
Nevertheless, expect to see #ProBowl trending just after dinner time on Sunday. The Pro Bowl, and the myriad of related tweets, kicks off at 7 p.m. ET.
