Report: Oakland ‘Very Interested’ In Manny Ramirez as DH for 2012

The Oakland A's are getting desperate.

The Athletics are considering signing Manny Ramirez and were able to watch him take live indoors batting practice this past week, according to ESPNDeportes.com. Other teams, such as the Blue Jays and Orioles, are also planning to take a closer look at Ramirez in late January.

"The Orioles and Blue Jays saw Manny work and Baltimore liked what it saw, but Oakland has been the team that has expressed the most interest, even before having him work out," the source told ESPNDeportes.

Before he could start playing, however, Ramirez would have to serve a 50-game suspension, instead of the 100-game suspension, due to an agreement with the MLB in order for Ramirez to be reinstated.

Ramirez has a career batting average of .312 and has launched 555 home runs to go along with 1,831 RBIs.
