Could another superstar point guard be on the move?
We already saw that Deron Williams was traded to the New Jersey Nets in the middle of last season, and Chris Paul moved from the Hornets to the Clippers. Now, with Williams' contract expiring at the end of this season, he could be looking for a new team again this summer, reports ESPN's Chris Broussard.
Broussard writes that Williams' first choice is to stay with the Nets as the franchise moves to Brooklyn and builds a contending team. However, he recognizes that this may be difficult to accomplish if they are unable to land Dwight Howard.
According to his sources, Broussard claims that the Nets would be willing to explore trading Williams if Howard is traded to a different team, such as the Los Angeles Lakers.
Williams has expressed interest in signing with several teams if he reaches free agency this summer. Among those teams are the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and his hometown Dallas Mavericks. Neither the Lakers nor the Knicks would have the cap room to sign him outright, which would give the Nets the opportunity to trade their superstar for some significant value.
After Brook Lopez went down with a foot injury, the Nets' chances of trading for a star to put alongside Williams decreased significantly. Now, if they can't figure something out, Williams may walk and leave the franchise with no significant players as they make the transition to Brooklyn.
