Midfielder Joao Carlos Teixeira is close to completing a move from Portugal’s Sporting CP (Lisbon) to Liverpool FC. The Reds have agreed to a £850,000 fee for the highly rated teenager, according to the Daily Mail.

Liverpool and the player must now negotiate a contract, if the report of an agreement between the teams is true.

Teixeira, 19, is a graduate of Sporting’s famed youth system. He trains with the club’s first team, but has yet to make his debut for the Portuguese giants.

His star performances in the NextGen Series convinced the Reds of his potential. He even scored a nice goal at Anfield in August. LFC academy technical manager Jose Segura recommended the player, according to reports in Portugal.

Sporting has run into financial difficulty and the Reds quickly moved for Teixeira when they learned that he was available.
