Prince Fielder is headed back to the city where his father became a larger-than-life star.

The free-agent first baseman has agreed to join the Detroit Tigers, according to multiple reports. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the contract is a nine-year deal worth $214 million.

Fielder, thought by some to be the best long-term free agent in a class that included new Angels first baseman Albert Pujols, will spend the better part of a decade in the same city his father, Cecil Fielder, played a good part of his career.

Prince also gives the Tigers a dynamic lineup, as he'll share the middle of the lineup with fellow slugger Miguel Cabrera. Heyman says that it's likely that Fielder will play first base while the Tigers will find a new role for Cabrera.

Fielder is coming off of another strong year as one of the game's elite sluggers. He played in all 162 games for the Milwaukee Brewers last season, hitting .299 with 38 home runs and 120 RBIs. In six full seasons in the majors, Fielder averages 38 home runs and 108 RBIs per season, helping the three-time All-Star to a .929 OPS.
