The Yankees bolstered their rotation on Friday night with the additions of Michael Pineda and Hiroki Kuroda. The Red Sox could counter with Vicente Padilla.
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Padilla is getting closer to a deal with the Sox, who are still in need of some rotational depth.
Padilla pitched nine games out of the Dodgers bullpen last season, but he's mostly been a starter throughout his 13-year career. He started 16 games for the Dodgers in 2010, compiling a 6-5 record to go with a 4.05 ERA.
The 34-year-old is 104-90 with a 4.31 ERA in 330 career games (237 starts). His best season came in 2002, when he went 14-11 with a 3.28 ERA in 32 starts for the Phillies while earning an All-Star selection.
