Tony Sparano is jumping from one Patriots rival to another.
The former Miami Dolphins head coach has agreed to become the New York Jets offensive coordinator for the 2012 season. The annoucement comes after Brian Schottenheimer left the position Monday evening.
The change in coordinators didn't come as a shock to many, as Schottenheimer was a scrutinized figure in the late-season meltdown for the Jets.
After beating Kansas City in Week 14, the Jets sat at 8-5 and were in good shape to make the playoffs. New York would then proceed to lose its last three games, scoring fewer than 20 points in each contest.
For Sparano, it gives him an opprounity to land on his feet after a disappointing tenure in Miami. After winning the AFC East in his first year, the Dolphins would suffer through three consecutive losing seasons. Sprarano was fired after Week 14 of this season and finished with a 29-32 record.
