Hockey East alums are everywhere across the league, and some of them have developed quite the reputation among the NHL's best.
Ironically, two of the longer-tenured Hockey East alums play for a team that's quite despised throughout New England — the Montreal Canadiens. League veterans Brian Gionta (Boston College) and Hal Gill (Providence) serve as two veteran leaders for the Habs.
Thousands of miles away, Dustin Penner (Maine) is another veteran player who continues to make his mark in the NHL. While he struggles to regain the consistency and production he found in both Anaheim and Edmonton, a turnaround for Penner may mean a turnaround for the Kings.
Hockey East is represented in more than just wiley veterans, though. Colin Wilson (Boston University) is looking to make his mark in his second full season in the NHL with Nashville while fellow Terrier alum Kevin Shattenkirk is having a nice season on the Blues' blue line.
Finally, there's Ryan Whitney (Boston University) up in Edmonton. The fifth overall pick in the 2002 draft, Whitney has struggled to stay healthy as of late. When the defenseman is healthy, however, the Scituate, Mass. native serves as a strong offensive presence on the back end.
