Garrett Paquette passed away unexpectedly this past November from an ATV accident. His father Roger Paquette and his son's friends Joey Smith and Blake Simpson knew just how to pay their respects — by throwing a fish onto the ice during a Vancouver Canucks game.

Garrett had planned to throw a salmon on the ice Saturday against his favorite team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, with Garrett no longer here, his father figured he might as well follow up on the plan in memory of his son against the Minnesota Wild.

The three men strapped vacuum-wrapped salmon to their chests and got ready for the game, according to The Daily News. With just a couple minutes left in the third period, Simpson grabbed the fish and threw it on the ice. The fans cheered immediately, while the announcers chuckled at the occurence.

Maybe the men created a new tradition similar to the one in Detroit of throwing octopi onto the ice.
