Former Lakers star Magic Johnson was still very much in the prime of his career heading into the 1991-92 season, when he was forced to retire at the age of 32 after testing positive for HIV.
Johnson, a five-time NBA champion and three-time MVP, decided to announce his retirement publicly — a topic that ESPN Films and NBA Entertainment are making their next documentary about.
On Friday, they released the first trailer for The Announcement, which will air March 9 at 9 p.m. on ESPN.
