Well, Moss received a contract offer on Thursday, the only problem was it wasn't from any team in the NFL.
The Chicago Slaughter of the Indoor Football League, IFL, were the one's calling, offering the 35-year-old receiver a contract to join their team. The IFL is most notably known for currently hosting another former Pro Bowl receiver, Terrell Owens.
Owens signed a contract with the IFL's Allen Wranglers last month and made an immediate impact with the league. Slaughter coach Steve McMichael hopes Moss could do the same for his team.
"Seeing the splash that T.O. made going to the Allen, Texas, team, it would be a coup for us to get Randy," McMichael said, also noting the differences between the two leagues. "And it's only a 50-yard field, baby. It's not like he has to run all over creation. It's like playing half-court basketball."
While, as a fan, it would be amazing to see Moss join the IFL and it may even force me to watch a game — if they are even televised — the move could be more a detrement than anything to the receivers hopes of getting back to the NFL.
The field may be smaller and the competition not quite as big and strong as NFL defenders, the risk for injury still remains and may even be heightened with the lesser competition sharing the field. Also, there's the matter of the money, which may not be Moss's primary concern like it is for Owens but the typical $300 salary isn't going to cut it for a guy used to making a few million in the NFL.
