“The club has asked police to investigate and possibly file charges and has urged fans to identify the perpetrators,” the AP reports says. “The team adds in a statement it “distances itself expressly from any form of racism, discrimination or anti-Semiticism.”
The alleged offenders reportedly belong to a group of hooligans that has been banned from attending Kaiserslauten games for years.
The struggling German club lost 4-0 to Mainz in a Bundesliga (first division) contest the previous day. It is in serious danger of relegation, sitting in next-to-last place in the standings with 11 games remaining this season.
Germany has laws in place that restrict neo-Nazi propaganda. Nazi symbols (and some gestures) are banned as well.
