Kelly Clarkson made sure she didn't follow in Christina Aguilera's footsteps.
Clarkson performed the national anthem prior to Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday, and she actually did a pretty solid job. She certainly outperformed Aguilera, who completely botched the anthem before last year's big game.
Clarkson, who was the winner of American Idol in the show's inaugural season in 2002, didn't do anything flashy during her rendition, but that's what made it solid. Rather than trying to jazz things up, she instead focused on the task at hand: not screwing up — which she did a good job of.
