Maccabi Haifa Goalkeeper Scores Ridiculous, Wind-Assisted Own Goal (Video)

It’s not every day that a goalkeeper scores an own goal. Then again, not many soccer games are played in the holy land with gale-force winds swirling around the field. On Wednesday, Assaf Mendes might have scored one of the most bizarre own goals in history.

Mendes attempted to kick the ball up-field, but a perfectly timed wind gust blew the ball back toward his net. His shock may have prevented him from making the save, and the ball went into the back of the net.

Good thing for him, the game was only a 60-minute friendly between Israeli club Maccabi Haifa and Ukranian club Dynamo Kiev.

Reports say one of the goals blew off its moorings into the air. It is unknown if it was followed by pestilence.
