Boxing fans have been waiting for years for the sport's two biggest stars to square off in the ring.

Unfortunately, even as representatives for Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather work on a possible deal, time is running out on what would be the most lucrative boxing match in history.

Ken Hershman, the new president of HBO Sports, said any fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather has a "sell-by date," The Associated Press reports.

Hershman went on to explain that if the two sides cannot agree by later this year or early 2013, the fight would become "less and less relevant."

He also volunteered HBO Sports to get involved and mediate the discussions, but did not expect the fighters to take him up on it. The fight may never come to fruition, as both fighters have found plenty of excuses or obstacles. Now, with the clock ticking, however, their tone may change.

In the end, there is a lot of money on the line here, and it seems we are running out of time for these two fighters to cash in on the opportunity.
